osx con mplayer - compile

Instructions for compiling Mplayer for OSX
in order to receive Ogg/Theora audio & video streams.
the following has been tested on G4 in 10.3.6 & 10.3.7

You need to have Apple Developer Tools installed.
Its on Disk 3 of OSX or u can download from Apple.

1. download Fink http://fink.sourceforge.net/
This permits to download & install libraries - we like Fink Commander
which is a graphic interface to fink included in the osx download. In
Fink Commander / Preferences click on the Fink tab and tick "use
unstable packages". this is important because otherwise you will not
see several of the libraries you need.

2. using Fink Commander, install libogg and libvorbis

or with the command line do
(dont type the ")

"fink install libogg"
then
"fink install libogg-shlibs"
then
"fink install libvorbis0"
then
"fink install libvorbis0-shlibs"


3. download libtheora-1.0alpha4.zip or later ..
http://www.theora.org/download.html

unzip the folder with stuffit expander

navigate with terminal to the folder
type
"./configure --with-ogg=/sw --prefix=/sw"
then
"make"
then
"sudo make install"


4. download mplayer - version 1.0pre6a or later
http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/MPlayer-1.0pre6a.tar.bz2

navigate with terminal to the folder where u have downloaded it

type
"tar xfj MPlayer-1.0pre6a.tar.bz2"

copy the MPlayer folder to your Applications folder (recommended)
navigate in the terminal to the Mplayer folder

type

"./configure --enable-vorbis --enable-theora --enable-gui --with-extraincdir=/sw/include --with-extralibdir=/sw/lib/ --prefix=/sw && make"
then
"make"
then
"sudo make install"

5. to launch

navigate to the Mplayer folder

type

"./mplayer http://stream_address

where the URL is whatever server u r using
